I have been working on my current project from the very begining as a team member. A month ago, I was apointed a PM. Two years in the project, it still is hard to realize what has been done, what's to be done and how to achieve that. Even preparing the final budget numbers was a pain.
Have you ever had such an experience?

I've not had the opportunity to post recently as I have been on an assignment in the Middle East with a client of The Colour Works. I recently retired after 28 years with project management experience with a major telecommunications company. In my project manager role, I managed many projects with challenging schedules and budgets exceeding $2M to $25M. But, in the early years of my work, we weren’t even called project managers and used no organized methodologies. I secured my PMP certification about three years ago and learned the PMI view of using Earned Value Management to revise your forecast of the future progress of… Continue

Is your product successful because you were lucky, or because you were methodical and intentional?
Do you want to build a plan where you are dependent on good fortune, or do you want to make your own “luck?” Both approaches work, but only one makes sense as an intention. Slide 3 of your presentation to a venture capitalist should not say "And then we get lucky!"

This is not normal. I'm yelling at a customer service rep from GiftCards.com. I don't yell at people--at least very often.
How did this happen?
This is a quick tale of customer service from two companies, with lessons for project managers and other leaders.
About a year ago I was awarded a gift card by one of my top clients as part of their reward and recognition program for outstanding performance. The award… Continue
