The Risk Management Plan by Brad Egeland
In many of my other posts I’ve referred to the need for identifying issues and risks and managing them on an ongoing. This is done through adhoc informal communication and also formally as part of the weekly status reports and weekly status meetings.
As with the Project Communications Plan, whether or not your project or your customer requires the Risk Management Plan to be an actual deliverable, you should still create the plan and… Continue

Hi to everyone in the community. I've just joined this morning and as a first instance wanted to share some of my experience with the community to support fellow professionals.
Briefly, my background has been in Project Management and then following studies in behavioural psychology, in change management. I have worked as a consultant for blue-chip consultants in change management and now in my role as Founding Director of The Colour Works, work with leadership teams throughout the… Continue

Some people will argue that user interface mockups smell of big planning and have no place in agile, I disagree. Let’s face it; it’s hard for a product owner to communicate to the software development team how a software product should look and work without pictures.
A product owner that has screen mockups to work with has a powerful tool to elaborate user stories. Pictures enhance collaboration and understanding by giving the software development team an alternate method of… Continue

News Letter Making History
We are living in a new time and half way into a new age. The way we envisioned life yesterday is know the past. Be mindful. Now is the time to be creative. How we use to do things in the past will not work for the new age. The way you plan your day each day to get ready for work now has to change.
Each one teach one. One hand up and the other hand down. This is a movement I am carrying on my back. In order to become wealthy, you have to make… Continue

I've just started a recruitment practice in IQ Partners (www.iqpartners.com) specializing in connecting great project people with smart client companies. Not a great time to start a recruiting practice? I disagree.
Although there is doom and gloom about the economy in the media with news of lots of layoffs and companies downsizing left and right I'm finding that in the project management world at least there are opportunities out there in the marketplace.
First of all, not… Continue

As I noted in my post on the 14Mar2008
there is a new breed of project manager out there that is mainly made up of Gen Y
and Gen X individuals who are looking for more in a company. Long gone are the days of an employee being dedicated to one employer for their entire career. So what can we do to try to keep them for as… Continue

Probably you are reading this title and asking yourself: what does this guy want to talk about? Don’t worry; keep calm, my intention is not to prove anything about the actual project management models: positive and negative aspects, improvement needs or project manager’s responsibilities. The main objective of this simple text is to promote some reflection on the real project world.
Last weekend I had the opportunity to watch the movie “The curious case of Benjamin Button”. Well, if you… Continue

The risk of an event happening can be measured and expressed categorically in the form of its likelihood of occurrence (e.g. high, medium, low) or numerically in the form of a probability of success (0-100%). Some authors insist that the impact of the event, if it occurs, should also be described alongside the probability estimate and this impact can be referred to as the outcome or consequence of the event.
At the Project level, risk is relatively easy to quantify if one assumes that… Continue

Project Status Reporting
by Brad Egeland
I consider the Project Status Report a sacred piece of PM material. You do a lot of things on a weekly basis as a Project Manager, though many of those tasks that you perform are not very quantifiable. Your team members may accomplish a lot of documentable tasks, possibly even producing deliverables that are billable. But as the PM, you orchestrate but rarely deliver a product that you… Continue

Education is the ladder to success. It includes both the process of learning and the manner of teaching. The word also implies the proper conduct, cultivation of skills, and moral development of a person. But can education give us the kind of life we are seeking for? Can education give us all the things that we wanted? How powerful education is?
People need education for him to be responsible enough. Education opens up the door of development and the windows of opportunity for us to… Continue
