Just in case anyone is wondering what I'm talking about, here's the link to the CMS EHR incentive program website: https://www.cms.gov/ehrincentiveprograms/

This bit of legislation has had a major impact on many of my client's EHR projects.  The biggest impact has been on the budgets and many are struggling to meet milestones.  Fortunately, the ONC has recently recommended to postpone Stage 2 attestation, which should give my client's a little bit more breathing room.

Clearly I've neglected this forum.  I got caught up on Linkedin Groups and forgot I even started this subject.

Alas, I'd like to rekindle the flame with a relevant topic.

Meaningful Use of a Certified EHR Technology, it's big news in the industry right now.  How is everyone managing the process of reaching meaningful use for their clients?

I'm so glad to have found this grouip - I have 24 years in healthcare (Hospital and Physician Practice Management systems) and have served past 14 years as a Project Manager.

Just about everyone has their eye on healthcare IT these days.
Here are a couple articles I'd like to submit for your enjoyment:

Microsoft CEO calls for rebirth of healthcare, with IT at center:

There appears to be loads of material being written on this topic for obvious reasons (I've got quite a pile growing over here) but is anyone here involved in the CCHIT (www.cchit.org)?

Zach, good point. I posted this over on Twitter, will be interesting to see if any others pick up and comment on your insight.

I am curious to see what happens worldwide with EHRs. We know of those regions in Netherlands that have success story. I have seen more activity from the Asia regions on PHRs over past few months.

There are those who say that the Economic Stimulus bill, which affords $19 billion for Healthcare IT, will actually serve more as an obstacle to Physician adoption of EHR/EMR systems than an encouragement. I happen to be one of them.
Short term, I’m already seeing a “fall back” approach from many of my clients who are currently engaged in an EHR/EMR implementation. They have either put their projects on hold, or have decided to “scale back” while they wait to hear the final specifications for "certified EHR" and "meaningful use" criteria in the bill.
Long term, it’s possible that the $19 billion investment will encourage practices to adopt "certified ehr" systems that meet a certain set of specs, but are for the most part unproductive for the specialty, which would prolong the implementation process and ultimately drive up the cost of adoption.

Zach

Thanks for starting this group - I think its a great topic. I had been looking out for information on Healthcare IT and Alternative Sources of energy as they hold out great potential oppurtunities in light of recent happenings. Hopefully people knowldgeable on the subject will contribute to the forum. I will blog about the topic elsewhere too to start the discussion and some contibutors. Infact, I thought it was a great idea to keep tap on emerging issues like these and how they impact our futures. I have started a group http://www.ppmng.com/group/pmhorizonsfuturereadiness , to bring the people together that hopefully can help develop a crystal ball for us all. Checkit out! - Raj
