Samuel, it's definitely worth joining PMI. The amount you save on the exam by being a member is more than the cost of becoming a member.  For more on the certification process, check out http://www.i-leadonline.com/GetYourPMP.asp. I wish you much success!

I plan to join PMI first, then enroll for PMP Exam Prep before end of this year. And possibly write the exam sometimes next year. Do you think my plan is worthwhile?

I'd like to take the exam June 2010. I am going to use the PM PrepCast (the first and only 35 hour long PMP® Exam Video Workshop ) - http://www.project-management-prepcast.com/. I may also buy this Rita book everyone keeps talking about.

Ah, it's only money, eh? :) Some people actually prefer the printed copy so let's just say it was an investment, Michael!

I personally think the $399 e-learning system is overkill if someone has the Rita book and goes through it 2-3 times before taking the test. Her new prep guide as over 400 questions in it and does a great job of getting people ready for the exam. That doesn't mean the $399 investment is a bad idea--I'm putting my money on you passing this exam, Michael!

I just purchased the PMBOK Guide 4th Edition ($65.95 - I wish I knew of electronic version yesterday.) and Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep System - 6th Edition @ $399.00. I almost purchased just the Exam Prep book and I'm hoping the system is not over kill. Luckily Rita has updated her exam prep material as I was finding it a bit difficult to find other resources that were up to date. Thanks for the other bits of advice as well.

Thanks Ron! Great advice! Quick note for those perusing this group: if you join PMI you get an electronic version of the PMBOK Guide for free (plus a discount on the exam). Rita's newest book isn't as heavily discounted yet. If you're taking the exam in the next month or so you'll likely be paying more in the $80-$99 USD for the book yet it's still worth it.

Thanks again Ron!
